The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 make it compulsory for all UK employers to provide this training to each of their employees. Moving and handling is any activity which involves pushing, pulling, carrying, or lifting. Its official definition is the 'transporting or supporting of a load by hand or by bodily force'.

Manual Handling is essential for people’s everyday lives and so it is no surprise that more than one third of all workplace injuries are the result of such activities. The Manual Handling regulations are in force to protect everyone’s health and wellbeing and to make the work environment a safer place. The entire course is based around the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, helping you to abide with law.

This health and safety training course focuses on how to prevent an injury. It is designed to give you and your workforce the right skills and practical techniques to lift inanimate objects. Should a person’s spine and back be damaged, it can have almost irreversible effects which may affect the injured person for the rest of their life. For this reason, we highly recommend this course, not only to abide by legislation, but to also look after the long term health and wellbeing of your entire workforce. This course also includes a free risk assessment form which is available to every online user assigned to a course.

5 Steps to Risk Assessment:

This course covers: Understanding the Spine: See how the spine works, its construction, capabilities, and limitations. By learning this basic knowledge, your staff will understand how incorrect moving and handling can lead to acute and irreversible damage to your spine. Back Injuries: The common types of back injuries, how they occur, and what every individual can do to prevent them. Ultimately, employees will understand the severity of possible back and spinal damage; also helping them to understand how to prevent such injuries.

Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992: The points covered in this section are based around the legal aspects of moving and handling and legislation i.e. Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. Both employees and employers will be made aware of their respective responsibilities regarding these regulations.

Basic Principles of Moving and Handling Operations: The fundamental principles of the manual handling regulations and operations i.e. pushing; pulling; lifting; lowering and handling whilst seated; the correct methods; and the best working practices. The entire course aims to ensure that your employees are knowledgeable about how to complete moving and handling tasks safely when abiding by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. After completing this course, you and your employees will meet legislative requirements and will be better equipped to carry out these tasks safely and with more efficiency.
